City League
The City Team Leagues have been one of the most popular fixtures on the RSRA calendar for many years.
Beginning in October through the winter into the early weeks of March, multiple teams from different clubs across the city compete in weekly league play. The competition is split across three skill level divisions - Division I, Division II and Division III. Each Division consists of six to ten teams from multiple clubs (UR Medical Center, Genesee Valley Club, Midtown Athletic Club, Harro East, Kodak Park).
This is a great opportunity to play at different clubs across the city and meet the entire Rochester squash community outside of your club. The regular league schedule also provides a welcome routine n the long winter months.
League Schedule:
Weekly league matches (home and away) are scheduled in advanced as per the schedule below:
Division I - Tuesdays at 7:00pm
Division II - Wednesdays at 7:00 pm
Division III - Thursdays at 7:00pm
Note: You do not have to commit to playing every match in the season. Each team has more than three players usually who rotate or substitute for each other thus providing some flexibility.
Match Format:
Each team consists of at least three regular players and one or more subs. Team match format is the “best of 3 matches” each night. Each match is a “best of 5 games” (American scoring) format between the three players of each team. Each match won contributes a point to the team’s final point tally.
League Management:
The League Chair for RSRA is Mark Raeside. At the beginning of the season, the League Chair coordinates team rosters with the club reps and sets up the entire season’s schedule. Beginning 2008-09, the RSRA has adopted the new league management system from US Squash to administer the league season. Check out the season schedules for Division I, Division II and Division III.
Playoffs:
At the end of the season, the top three teams in each division battle it out in one night of playoff action.
Prizes:
Teams that win the most points through the season are the final champions. Prizes are also awarded to the playoff winners. Winning teams receive plaques and all winning team members receive individual t-shirts/jackets etc. A formal prize distribution ceremony is held at the annual Rochester ProAm or the End-of Season Party.
