Next quorum: We will vote to reduce the quorum threshold. Chip Nimick offered the following comments on the bylaws:
I’m sorry to say I think the vote taken at the last meeting does not properly amend the bylaws.

I have re-read the bylaws version of 2/9/09. My interpretation is that a bylaws change, in this case to reduce the number of Board members that constitutes a quorum of the Board, must be voted on at a meeting of the Association membership that has been announced to all members at least 10 days before the meeting. The announcement of the meeting must include a description of the proposed amendment to the bylaws. For a vote to be taken at such a meeting of the membership, there must be present a quorum of the Board members, i.e., non-Board members may vote on the bylaws proposal but don’t count towards the then current Board quorum requirement. Note that non-present members (incl. Board members) may vote on the proposal by email, but Board member presence at the meeting is required to have a quorum.

In addition to reducing the quorum requirement, I think we should consider amending the bylaws to permit the participation in any meeting of the Association by real-time audio (e.g. telephone conference call, Skype, etc.) to count towards the quorum required for that type of meeting.

Treasurer’s report:
Bill plans to send checks to the captains of the teams that travelled to Nationals according to our agreement. The captains are Chris Fenlon and Peter Brizee.

City League:
Herb Barbehenn, Doug Bennett, Ron Cavellier, Allen Lesser, and John Walsh met to discuss the upcomming City League season they decided:
- The league will be similar to previous seasons
- There will be an attempt to have players placed in appropriate leagues by ranking
- The league will start the second week of October
- There will be a winter break
- It will end earlier than last year
- There will be fewer bys
- The ball and scoring will be as follows
= Div. 1: two dot, PAR 11
= Div. 2: two dot, PAR 15
= Div. 3: one dot, PAR 15
The evening match will begin with a new ball.
Ball alternatives are acceptable by mutual agreement

Junior squash:
GVC plans to have two levels of club team.
John is working with Mercy and McQuaid and possibly Allendale Columbia to form club teams. Other schools have expressed interest.
With four teams, a nationally sanctioned league can be formed.

Mission statement: John wants to develop an appropriate statement.

Allen Handleman was ranked #1 nationally at 3.5
Chris Fenlon was ranked #3 nationally at 3.5

A discussion of future Pro tournament categories listed the pros and cons of different funding levels.

City League:

City League:
Doug discussed the National Playoffs and the mismatch from our ratings.
The National tournament cost and the possibility of Rochester Squash reimbursement for teams was discussed. Local interest is being gaged.
Plaques for season winners are being ordered but may be delivered after the Pro/Am awards.

Pro/Am: Mithun updates needs for housing.
Candidates for the Lyman and Wymuller awards are presented.

Other business:
John will send a note about Summer round robin leagues.
He is discussing high school club teams with three schools.

City League: We will alter the by vs % wins ranking for next year.
Some balls are being provided, some from US squash.

Website: We are looking at the National site for compatability with: City Ladder, box leagues, court scheduling etc. Ron Cavellier is planning on running a parallel monthly box league to test, it’s not necessary to be a US Squash member.

New Players: John has 6 juniors.
Jack discussed the opportunities for including new players into tournaments, leagues etc.
U of R topics: Lauren Renolds described the womens tournament, JV men to play Trinity Women.
George Armstrong: A discussion of promotion for early ’11.

City League: Doug presents key dates including a by week for the George Armstrong tournament 25 Oct.
Recommended scoring is PAR for division 1, HIHO for others. Alternatives are possible by agreement.
Recommended ball: Double yellow dot for division 1, single yellow dot for others, also subject to mutual agreement.
Pro-Am: Mithun aims for a date at the end of April ’11.

To the Rochester Squash community,

For those of you that may not be familiar with the Rochester Squash Racquets Association, the RSRA is a registered non-profit sports organization that has been around since the late ’70s and is affiliated to the national amateur squash body, US Squash. We are a team of dedicated squash enthusiasts & volunteers who are committed to:

• continuing the strong legacy of Rochester squash greats like Peter Lyman and Fred & Carol Weymuller (Brief district spotlight on Rochester’s squash history in Squash Magazine)
• promoting adult and junior squash in the Rochester area
• and putting our city on the national and international squash map.

Beginning in the fall, we meet once a month, usually at the Genesee Valley Club, to brainstorm and plan the year’s squash activities some of which include:

• the recently concluded and highly successful Rochester ProAm (since 2001!)
• the popular city team leagues and monthly club box leagues
• youth clinics to promote junior squash
• monthly women’s squash night (in the works!)
• the creation of an urban squash program (FutureSquash) – a youth enrichment program for inner city, underprivileged middle school children, our most ambitious program by far and currently under development.

But for all this we need YOUR help! We are looking for fresh faces to lead the growth of Rochester squash in the next year and beyond.
The RSRA is holding its annual Board Election on Tuesday May 18th at 6:00pm at the Genesee Valley Club (by the squash courts). If you would like to contribute your efforts towards any of the activities mentioned above, please join us. Also, if you aren’t already a member of RSRA/USSquash, please consider becoming a member. Your membership supports all of these activities.

John and Mithun are moving forward with development of an Urban Squash program.

An upcomming meeting will discuss transferral of our Box League scoring to the US squash site.

U of R women’s club team has a roster and intercollegiate schedule.
The men’s team will play Princeton in Dec.

A poll will be taken of Division 1 players to test demand for 15 PAR scoring.
There is good feedback from the single dot balls.

George Armstrong tournament:
- 60% of last year’s turn out
- Next year we’ll use a more direct promotion with mailings/postings.

A change to our checking account to a no fee one was approved, Bill and Mark will sign.

Mithun described a potential Pro Squash tour (not PSA) with a fall 2010 goal. The first event occured in Natic Mass. and was successful. Send potential non-squash sponsors to Mithun.
