High expectations from the Yellowjackets

The College Squash Association (CSA) has high expectations from the Yellowjackets this year, ranking them #5 in the pre-season rankings which were released this week. The Yellowjackets finished last season at #10 and have enjoyed a strong recruiting season this year, evident from the stellar new recruits on display at the exhibition on Meliora weekend. Cornell University also jumped up to a #6 pre-season ranking giving upstate NY another boost on the national college squash scene. The reigning Liberty League champions will defend their title this weekend in their first match of the season at the 2008 Liberty League Championships as they face off against Hobart, Vassar and St. Lawrence. Also, check out the team’s season schedule under Events.

Update – Nov 20th: Following the ’08-’09 pre-season team rankings, the CSA has released the ’08-’09 pre-season individual rankings with three from the Rochester squad in the top 20.

“…The rankings show even more concentration than ever, among the top 25 players, of the top three teams. The only surprise – the number three we are talking about is now Rochester not Harvard….
Rochester, under former PSA top-three player, Scotsman Martin Heath, has seen a meteoric rise in talent and ranking….
…Trinity boasts nine players amongst the top 25 while Princeton garners eight. With Rochester boasting 3 of the top 25 players, the remaining five include two Harvard players, two Yale players and rounded out by one from Cornell….”
