Local GVC juniors Alec Greaves-Tunnell (BU19) and Eliza Calihan (GU19) were recognized for the second year in a row as national US Squash Scholar Athletes for the 2007-2008 academic year. They were awarded the same recognition last year. This year, Alec and Eliza were joined by their younger siblings Nick Greaves-Tunnell and Kate Calihan in the BU17 and GU17 categories respectively.
Recipients had to play in at least four junior tournaments and pass the club referee exam, combined with a minimum GPA of 3.5 acquired in school. Scholar-athletes hail from public, private and boarding schools in 14 states and include 59 girls and 53 boys. Read more at US Squash.
Quite an accomplishment for these teenagers who delicately balance a stellar academic record along with a gruelling junior squash circuit! Their parents and GVC junior coach Kate Guyer are equally praiseworthy for their support, traveling tirelessly to tournaments and driving them countless times between school and the squash court.
