The Peter Lyman Squash Courts at the Goergen Athletic Center were buzzing with activity on Saturday evening as ten Rochester squashers had a chance to get on court with the “new and improved” University college team.
Peter Lyman himself was present to check out the new kids on the block who may be new to Rochester but have squash reputations that precede them in the world of junior squash.
This RSRA sponsored event included a set of two best-of-3 exhibition matches.
After a team introduction from coach Martin Heath, the guys were ready to roll.
The first match between Will Newnham and Robert McDavid was brief but entertained the crowd nonetheless. The second and final match between Jim Bristow and Hameed Ahmed regaled the crowd present with some dazzling trick shots interspersed with entertaining banter between players and referee.
The event was also a fundraiser for the team as RSRA donated $750 to the UR Squash team as a gesture of support. T-shirt sales for the evening added more fundraising dollars to the teams budget. All in all a great opening night for the Yellowjackets!
