Harro T-day Rumble

Harro East squash club held their traditional event this past Thanksgiving day. An even dozen turned out on a frigid morning in order to pre-burn their imminent massive caloric intake. That theory would have held up better except for the doughnuts, muffins, bagels and mimosas we brought.

The Harro participants this year were Charlie Kantor, Bridget Borsa, Ed Usinger, Frank Staropoli, Ken Harzynski, Andy Publow, Joe Jastrzembski, Steve Silbermann, and Chris Thomas. In addition to the regulars, this year we were joined by returning squash retirees Bob Brant and Jeff Scott. Also, Charlie Kantor brought along his daughter Julia, visiting from NYC.

The event format is simple – everybody plays each other one 15 PAR game. Of course, not everyone gets through all 11 games, for a variety of reasons. The winner is determined by most games won, or if their first name is Ed. Runner-up positions are determined by second most games won, best won/lost average, or fisticuffs. Since the scorecard invariably ends up looking like drunken mice ran across it, it is almost impossible to determine the final scores. If you can figure this mess out, please let the editor know…

Frank and Steve assume the position… Jeff and Bob duke it out

Charlie marks up another big win… Ken, Andy and Ed wait their turn.

Andy and Frank appear to have lost their ball… nope, found it!

Joe seems to be having way too much fun playing Steve… Ed enjoys his victory muffin.

Once again, a very enjoyable and successful event. The only thing to mar an otherwise perfect day was the intrusion of a renegade tennis player. We obviously need stronger pesticides.
