In quarter-final action, Mitch Wright won 3-2 over Chris Muir to move on to the semi-final round. It was a great match. Mitch volleyed his way to victory. He and Brian Bell match up — Thursday at noon. The winner of that match then advances to the championship match and will play Capt’n Cavellier who was fierce in his 3-0 victory over Bob Fehnel. Bob seemed to have had that [â€far off'’] / [â€not hereâ€] look that he gets sometimes when dreaming about Tennessee.
Thanks to Morgan Smith and Bob Schultz for flexing their court times and scoring the matches last night. It’s great to have people who can add negative numbers.
The Finals
Bell wins over Cavellier, but it wasn’t easy. Brian and Ron see-sawed for nearly an hour in the Kodak Handicap Squash Tournament Finals. As it turned out, there was no point spread for this match as they both entered with -3 handicaps.
Capt’n Cavellier started out strong, winning the first two games by zinging some wicked shots and keeping Brian guessing. Then, back-against-the-wall, Brian evened the
games score at 2-2 and kept his comeback going into the fifth game. The Capt’n looked to be saving his energies for the break-loose fifth game. He did break loose, and mounted his own comeback to get to 11-12. That is when the tin seemed to have risen a few inches. Brian held on to win after a spectacular finale by both players. The final 13-15, 11-15, 15-10, 15-4, 15-12.
Thanks to Morgan Smith, who scored the match and the standing-room-only crowd who came to watch. Prizes were awarded and Brian took home the trophy, (all 2 liters’ worth). It was a fun event. Thanks to all who participated.
Kodak Handicap Tournament Draw includes each players handicap (next to name).
The editors took out the photo of Fehnel, you know, that [â€far offâ€] / [â€not hereâ€] look. Bob will thank the editors later.
